Function:

1.  We use when or what for questions about time.

            When is your birthday?                     It’s on Sunday.

            What day is the party?                      It’s on Sunday.

            What time is the party?                     It’s at 8:00

PREPOSITIONS OF TIME

2.  When we talk about time, we usually use the prepositions in, on or at.

            a)  We use in for parts of the day and with months, seasons, and years:

                        In the morning, in the afternoon, in the evening.

                        In July, in August, in the spring, in 1786

            b)  We use qt with night:  at night

      

            c)  We use on with days and date:

                         on Monday, on Tuesday morning, on September 12^th.

                         on the 12^th of September

            d)  We use at for times of the day:

                        

                         at  2 o’clock

                         at  5:15
